Software Engineering Manager
 

Overview

The Software Engineering Manager provides direction and guidance to an engineering team to design, implement and maintain our innovative software products. The successful candidate must be able to quickly learn the existing systems and components, and in tandem with their team will participate in extending them as the business grows, including developing new subsystems as well as expanding the current system with new components and modules.  Additionally, this position will be responsible for local (IDC) team management of members on the Data Science and Analytics engineering team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop team of Engineers, QA and Data Scientists on the Data Science and Analytics team
  • Works with US-based and local senior leadership and cross functionally with Product Management, Engineering, Operations, IT, and Professional Services.
  • Lead a team to design, develop and document software components using established practices and meeting timeline commitments
  • Manage all phases of the software development life cycle
  • Contribute original ideas and architectural thinking
  • Take ownership of major features and components
  • Utilize test-driven development approach to deliver commercial quality code
  • Perform code and design reviews
  • Perform hands-on development and maintenance of software applications/components
  • Effectively grow, manage and lead a software engineering team
  • Function in an Agile development model
  • Local engineering team management, oversight, and development

Required Skill Set and Experience:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related field
  • 8+ years experience in commercial software development, including 3+ years management or other leadership experience
  • Knowledge of Java, MSSQL, UNIX, Spark, Python, Kubernetes, SCALA
  • Basic understanding of Data Science concepts: machine learning deep neural networks (CNN, RNN), model development, training and validation, production data pipelines
  • Experience leading teams both direct and indirect.
  • Experience in analysing information or data and ability to identify trends.
  • Strong written, analytical and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent Collaboration skills, project management skills.
  • Capable of influencing a wide range of audience, and having demonstrated leadership skills to win support without direct reporting structure.
  • Formulate strategic vision, define implementation plan of action to achieve success.
  • Track record of building teams.
  • Results-oriented, empowering leader w/ direct experience exceling in a matrixed environment
  • Influential leader with good emotional intelligence and ability to coach and develop
  • Interpersonal skills: Engaging communicator, strong collaboration, patience, and open minded.
