Tibco partners with Edifecs on providing HIPAA solutions
PALO ALTO, Calif. (May 6, 2002)
-- TIBCO Software Inc. (Nasdaq: TIBX)
today extended its long-standing commitment
to the healthcare industry, announcing
new levels of Enterprise Application
Integration (EAI) and Business-To-Business
(B2B) integration for healthcare companies
with its newest release of TIBCO ActiveExchange™
3.0. TIBCO ActiveExchange delivers
a Healthcare Integration Pack (HIP)
that reduces the cost of interacting
with other healthcare providers, payers
and partners, provides a cost-effective
and flexible platform for long-term
strategic initiatives, improves customer
service, and helps healthcare providers
achieve and maintain compliance with
government mandates for standardization.
TIBCO also announced today it is engaging
in joint technology and marketing
with Edifecs and HTC Global Solutions
to deliver solutions for healthcare
companies to comply with the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
In today's business environment,
the healthcare industry is challenged
with conducting increasingly complex
business processes and transactions
and sharing information with a growing
number of business partners and clients
with the utmost security, all at Internet
speed. Many transactions, such as
the completion and sharing of purchase
orders and invoices, continue to be
primarily manual, collaborative activities
that occur between a number of partners.
These processes often take months
to complete.
TIBCO ActiveExchange™ automates
such business processes to decrease
the costs associated with manual transactions
and procedures and reduces the possibility
of duplications or errors. ActiveExchange™
provides the security and integrity
of online interactions with robust
authentication and authorization,
encryption and non-repudiation and
creates an enhanced communication
platform between healthcare providers,
their partners and clients, providing
real-time information for better informed
business decisions and improved customer
service.
Solutions for HIPAA Compliance
By October 2003, healthcare providers,
payers, government agencies and other
self-insured companies affected by
the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA),
will need to address strict new HIPAA
transaction standards. The new HIPAA
standards were developed to improve
service and provide more efficient
healthcare operations through standardized
e-commerce processes and effective
uses of computer systems in the healthcare
community. TIBCO is working with Edifecs
and HTC Global Solutions to develop
integration enablement solutions that
provide the fastest, most reliable
and risk-adverse path to HIPAA transaction
compliance and partner enablement,
while delivering return on investment.
"HIPAA compliance is largely
an enterprise application integration
problem," said Wes Rishel, research
director of Gartner Research. "Healthcare
organizations should choose remediation
tools that bring to bear the full
suite of application integration capabilities
to bear on the problem."
"TIBCO delivers the most powerful,
flexible and reliable integration
solutions on the market, making the
decision to partner with them on our
Integration Enablement Solutions for
HIPAA an easy choice," said Sunny
Singh chief executive officer of Edifecs.
"Additionally, TIBCO has a long-standing,
solid reputation within the healthcare
industry, which affords a high level
of trust and accountability for our
current and potential customers."
"HIPAAworks combines TIBCO's
Healthcare Integration Pack with HTC's
popular HIPAArtner methodology framework
and toolkits, to establish a truly
strategic platform to achieve HIPAA
compliance. Our customers will see
HIPAAworks not merely as a means to
achieve regulatory compliance, but
as a flexible and cost-effective electronic
foundation to achieve tangible return
on investment. Beyond compliance,
healthcare providers will be able
to bring about key business process
improvements through improved integration
and connectivity," said Madhava
Reddy, chief executive officer of
HTC Global Services. "We are
very excited about this opportunity
to partner with TIBCO to help our
customers tame HIPAA and realize value
that far transcends regulatory compliance."
"TIBCO ActiveExchange provides
tremendous benefits for the healthcare
industry, enabling providers to conduct
business with their partners and clients
more quickly, effectively, and more
securely," said Murat Sonmez,
senior vice president for TIBCO Software.
"TIBCO has been a long-term player
within the healthcare industry and
continues to be a strategic leader,
developing solutions and forming partnerships
that address the needs specific to
the industry."
