Structuring the B2B Requirements Process
Each B2B implementation must start with the requirements process. This process can be broken into the following 7 key steps:
SpecBuilder includes the following tools specifically designed to simplify and structure these steps
and thereby help you to start exchanging data faster.
|
Select a Base Standard
SpecBuilder includes an extensive standards library that greatly reduces the time-to-define business messages.
The library contains over 18,000 templates including those for X12, EDIFACT, RosettaNet, HIPAA, ODETTE, EANCOM, TRADACOMS,
VICS, UCS, and more. Each template includes descriptions, business rules, usage notes, and other properties.
Refer to the SpecBuilder Standards Library Guide for the complete list including version and release numbers.

Start from a Data File
Use the SpecGenerator tool to create an initial guideline from an existing data file.
This is useful when documenting existing implementations for improved requirements lifecycle management.
And combined with SpecBuilder's mapping tool integration, it can also greatly reduce the time to create
new maps both internally and externally.

|
|
Customize your Guideline
Use the SpecBuilder editor tool to add your specific business rules.
You can include and exclude codes and other guideline nodes, customize min and max values,
add syntax rules, enter usage notes, specify application mapping fields, and more.
Then output detailed reports that include a table of contents, sections for guideline and dictionary information,
and a cross-referenced index. Reports can be sent to a printer or saved as RTF or HTML.

|
Compare and Migrate between Versions
Migrate customizations when new versions of the standards are released and after performing GAP analysis with your partners.
Perform detailed GAP analysis between your purchase orders, invoices, and other specifications and those of partners,
the base standard, or industry guidelines. Set comparison options to look for differences in min and max values, syntax rules,
usage notes, application fields, and many other attributes. Get Standards updates as they are released with
SpecBuilder and then save time using Migrator to copy your custom requirements to new versions.

|
|
Integrate Faster with Half-Maps
Reduce partner time-to-integrate by exporting half-maps from SpecBuilder to BizTalk, GENTRAN, and many other mapping tools.
By using "Half-Maps", trading partners can directly import the entire message specification, including all of the business rules,
directly into their Mapper. This both reduces the time to implement, as well as reduces the potential for errors and time to test.
|
|
|
Validate Production Data for Compliance
Use SpecBuilder Analyzer to test internal and partner data for specification compliance and improve quality while saving time.
Perform more than a 100 specific validation checks including field data type validation, length validation,
syntax rule validation, and more. Quickly navigate your data files using SpecBuilder's powerful 3-paned window that links
each error with the corresponding data and guideline nodes.
|
|
|
Create Test Data for Backend Testing
Use the SpecBuilder data tool to create comprehensive test scenarios for backend and partner testing.
First auto-generate a set of test files directly from your guidelines.
Then, use the data navigator window to easily customize the data files while being assured that the changes you
make are compliant with your specifications.
